Band Members

Show Notes

Soundgarden's last show before their breakup in April of 1997. Ben had problems with his bass cabinet during soundcheck, which put him in a very foul mood. When his bass cabinet stopped working at the end of "Blow Up The Outside World", Ben snapped and smashed his bass, flipped off Kim and then the audience and then refused to come back and finish the set. No replacement bass was available as the opening band had already left the arena. Ben's outburst led to a shouting match with Kim backstage that almost escalated into a fight. Chris and Matt would come back out and play some songs to close up the show, among them "Fell On Black Days", which included Matt but neither of the other two band members. The entire show lasted only 85 minutes. Last versions of every song performed. Susan Silver, the band manager and Chris' wife (at the time) flew many of the band's friends and family to the show as it was scheduled to be the last show of the Down On The Upside tour. She remembers that Chris' voice sounded excellent on this evening but that this was overshadowed by what would transpire later in the show. Chris dedicated "Rusty Cage" to Johnny Cash, stating: "When you die and go to Heaven, you'll find The Man in Black - Johnny Cash, that is - standing at the entrance and making the decisions about who'll be allowed inside."
